request for free increase in withdrawal power up to 6 kW extended until 2025

ARERA has officially reopened and extended to December 2025 the experimental project which allows users in possession of suitable charging devices to request it free of charge and voluntarily the increase in withdrawal power up to 6 kW in the night and holiday time slots. Initially, the approximately 2000 users who had joined the project by 30 April 2023 will continue to benefit from this possibility.

The definitive consolidation of this measure is expected by the end of February 2024, which is being developed in agreement with the GSE and will be membership reopened to the project to involve new users.

Purpose of the experiment

This project was born with the aim of promoting the intelligent charging of electric vehicles compatible with existing electricity networks, exploiting the potential of the electronic meters of the devices which are able to regulate the charging speed based on the commands provided by external actors.

Necessary requirements:

  1. own one charging station deemed suitable
  2. energy supply contract domestic or non-domestic active electricity
  3. at the time of the request power used must be between 2 kW and 4.5 kW
  4. the connection must be in low voltage (supply voltage not exceeding 1000V)
  5. The meter installed must be first or second generation of remote-controlled electronic type

List of charging devices suitable for testing:

The list of devices that can request this benefit is available on the GSE website; the list is divided between devices equipped with Dynamic Load Management (GDC), capable of regulating the charging power based on the detection of the residual available power at the point withdrawal and devices without (NO GDC).
