Palermo, failed Reset conciliation. The unions: “Ready to mobilize”

The state of agitation of the Reset workers was confirmed after the cooling procedure in the prefecture with the subsidiary of the Municipality of Palermo ended with a negative outcome on Thursday. For too long now, trade union organizations have been demanding the restoration of normal contractual and income conditions, full-time staff profiles, the unblocking of the economic part of previous seniority increases, company reorganization and the stipulation of a service contract on at least a three-year basis .

While there continues to be no industrial plan for Palermo’s Multiservizi and with the tourist season already underway, the city and the beaches are abandoned and weeding has not yet started. “In a city that is hot in summer, the weed control service cannot be scheduled for July with extreme delay, the high temperatures could put the safety of citizens and the workers themselves at risk.”, say Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl, Cisal Fiadel, Asia Snalv and Ursas Cisas, who had asked for the conciliation intervention of the Prefect, are raising their voices again. “A city like Palermo – say the unions – with a great tourist and cultural vocation, cannot live hand to mouth and not have adequate structured services”. In the absence of certain answers, a negative opinion was expressed at the meeting and the conciliation attempt was unsuccessful. The problems have all remained on the table, the guarantees deemed essential by the unions to close a dispute “that has gone on for too long” have not arrived.

The 1,150 workers of the multi-service subsidiary Reset ask for compliance with the commitments made by the municipal administration. “We tell the municipal administration that the time for credits has expired. We need facts. The workers say enough is enough. Reset is a company like the other subsidiaries of the Municipality of Palermo and the workers of Reset are the same as all the workers of the other subsidiaries. There can no longer be different and unequal treatments – declare Giuseppe Aiello, Mimma Calabrò, Giuseppe Badagliacca, Salvo Barone and David Fell, respectively of Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl, Cisal-Fiadel, Asia-Snalv and Ursas Cisas – STwo years have already passed with the new administration and the condition has never changed. We have proclaimed the state of agitation that we are maintaining, but now we are ready to mobilize. We await certain answers, facts, not words. Workers are still stuck at the sacrifice of the 2014 exemptions, the high cost of living and the inflation of recent years have worsened their living conditions, making them increasingly poorer”.

We reject any proposal that entails further sacrifices for workers – the unions reiterate – We therefore reiterate our requests to the Municipality of Palermo, the majority shareholder, and to the Reset company: the restoration of the normal contractual and income conditions, of the full-time profiles of the staff, the unblocking of the economic part of the previous seniority increases, the corporate reorganization and the stipulation of a Service Contract on at least a three-year basis. It is time for the subsidiary to undertake new solid and structured paths with increasingly qualified services to provide to citizens and to give legitimate contractual conditions to these workers“.
