The Carabinieri have reported a man and a woman, aged respectively 45 and 39 years old respectively and both Neapolitans, in a state of freedom, with the accusation of having defrauded a woman from whom they had received, through a scam, jewels worth eighty thousand EUR.

According to what emerged from the investigations carried out by the soldiers of the Villa San Giovanni Company, the two telephoned the old woman, posing as policemen and making the woman believe that her son had been arrested after having caused a road accident with injuries and that an emergency was needed. sum of money to pay the legal costs and obtain his release.
The investigations arose from the complaint of an elderly woman from Bova Marina (RC) who was the victim of a scam carried out using a consolidated technique. Posing as the Carabinieri, they telephoned her victim, telling her that her son, arrested after a car accident with injuries, would urgently need money to cover legal costs and bail.
The modus operandi of the criminals
The switchboard operator kept the victim on the phone as long as necessary, while the victim, not having cash, collected all the precious jewelery kept in the house. At that point, her accomplice entered the scene, physically presenting herself at the unfortunate woman’s home, posing as a lawyer, and having her huge loot delivered.
This time, however, the Carabinieri, thanks to rapid and incisive investigative activity, managed to identify and stop the two scammers who, having fled, then decided to stay at an accommodation facility in Scilla.
The old woman’s precious possessions were all recovered and seized, while charges were filed against the two criminals.
The proceeding is currently in the preliminary investigation phase and the principle of not guilty applies to the suspects until the final sentence.
