The paths of Mirko Pigliacelli and Palermo now seem destined to separate. The former Craiova goalkeeper has played the last two seasons in the rosanero shirt. Bittersweet experience: in the first the number 22’s performance was certainly positive, while in the last one that just ended he also ended up in the dock. Too many goals from outside the area conceded, a few too many insecurities and again the figure of the young and talented Desplanches who “pushed” from the bench.
Pigliacelli has another year on his contract, but the best solution for all parties today seems to be an early separation. Certainly the Roman goalkeeper will also have a market in Serie B, which is why it won’t be a big problem to find admirers. But with the farewell on the 22nd, Palermo will have to look for another experienced goalkeeper to accompany the young Desplanches.
De Sanctis’ visit to the Inter headquarters also concerns this. There was talk, among other names, of Emil Audero, the Italian-Brazilian goalkeeper who stood out in a big way with the Sampdoria shirt in recent years. He would be the perfect figure to pair with the young Rosanero number 1: a reliable “kick” to learn from and be protected from if there were turbulent phases. In his last season with the Nerazzurri Audero made just 4 appearances, including one in the Champions League against Benfica.
In the casting that the Rosanero club will set up in the next few days also the Albanian Berisha, who will face Italy at Euro2024 this evening.
