Historical procession of Sant’Antonio di Padova

The celebrations in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua are almost over. The brotherhood and rectory of the Most Holy Savior has organized a historical procession entitled “The Nightingale of God” for Sunday 16 June to relive the story of the saint.

More than 120 people in medieval clothes will participate in the event. Among these, the group of altar servers from the parish of Santi Matteo e Nicolò, the flag-wavers and musicians of the Fieramosca of Barletta, the group of the Drago del Fuoco of Barletta and the dancers of the New Dance Academy. The procession will offer a suggestive and evocative representation of the blessed transit of the Saint. This leap in time will begin from the diocesan museum with the announcement and departure of the procession at 6.00 pm, and then continue along Largo San Donato, via Cardinal Dell’Olio, via Ottavio Tupputi, piazza Castello, corso Umberto, via Porto, via Nazario Sauro, via La Marina, Largo Caduti Corazzata Roma, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Schinosa ramp, Via Treno and Via Trieste, ending in the churchyard of the rectory of the Santissimo.

The arrival is scheduled for 9.00 pm and will begin the final act on the life of the saint, which will end with the blessing of the relic of Saint Anthony and an evocative pyromusical show in the churchyard of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, organized by Pirotecnica Trani .

«Change is in human nature: as the years go by, customs, customs and habits change, but there is something that does not change, which belongs to the people of Bisceglie at the beginning of the 20th century as much as to those of the new millennium: it is faith , the gift of believing in the miracle of the resurrection and of entrusting ourselves to those who, like our beloved Saint Anthony, were servants of the faith and became our intercessors” commented Gianni Bufo, the artistic director and director of the procession, reached by Bisceglieviva.

«For this reason, today, as we have done continuously for a century, we relive the emblematic stages of a life, that of the Saint who wandered through this mare nostrum, so wonderful and at the same time terrible, so that he helps us share the joy of moments of calm and to overcome the difficulties of the storm, as he did. Today we do not rely on him, but from his life we take that strength, which served our ancestors and which we will continue to transmit over time – he continued, anticipating what spectators will be able to admire – The historical procession promises to maintain a very strong adherence to the historical and cultural traditions of this exceptional land of Bisceglie, giving prominence to the sacred contents and keeping faith with what happened way back in 1200. I invite all citizens to relive the atmosphere of that era, to immerse themselves in the atmospheres, lights and customs of a past that still has so much to tell” concluded Bufo.
