“Station, news for taxis and parking”

New arrangement of parking in the area of the shelter under the clock tower, new parking area for taxis, review of the flooring, increase in security in the area. These are some of the measures indicated by the mobility councilor Enrico Tucci for Piazzale Rosselli, the area in front of the station dotted with so many problems that we hope, sooner or later, for an overall redesign effort, beyond the necessary buffer solutions. Tucci recalled that “the space at the time was not correctly planned and distributed by the redevelopment project of 2000. In fact, the project then implemented envisaged a large pedestrian area, without protection from the elements and therefore barely usable, to the detriment of the traffic. The vehicle lane in front of the passenger building, of limited width and not sufficient to allow the transit of vehicles in the presence of buses at the stop, constitutes a real bottleneck for the traffic of the Square which is difficult to resolve”.

For now, the focus will be on rearranging the parking in the area between the Clock Tower and the travelers’ building, creating new signs, moving the taxis “both due to the wear and tear caused by their sliding and parking on the pedestrian pavement of the square, and in anticipation of a future redevelopment of the pedestrian area of the square”.

Councilor Alessandro Masi, Pd, asked for a “planning effort. The Structural Plan could identify new measures to improve access to traffic attractors in that area. The lack of coordination of traffic flows between hospital and station must be resolved”.
