Trapani Shark offers a three-year contract to coach Luca Banchi

After winning promotion to the LBA, the Sicilian team Trapani Shark would have offered a three-year contract to the current Juventus coach Luca Banchi.

Giuseppe Malaguti reported the news in the last few hours, the amount offered to the coach from Grosseto would be one million euros net per season for a contract lasting a total of three years. The desire of the Trapani team seems to be to reach the top flight already as a protagonist. Even several top players in the Italian championship were approached by president Antonini’s company.

The Juventus season only ended yesterday with the defeat in Game 4 suffered at the Unipol Forum in Assago. The current Juventus coach signed a contract at the beginning of the season two-year contract with the Bologna company which will therefore also have value for the next season and which will only expire in 2025.

Banchi has already been coach of Trapani in the 2004-2005 season.

Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna SpA announces that it has reached an agreement until 30 June 2025 with Luca Banchi, fresh winner of the Best Coach award of the 2023 World Cup.

Banchi was born in Grosseto on 1 August 1965 and began his coaching career in his hometown in 1983: after various experiences in Tuscany, he sat on the bench first of Trieste, then of Trapani and Jesi. In 2006 he began his adventure in Siena, first as assistant and then as Head Coach. An experience that culminated in 2013 with the victory of the Scudetto and the Italian Cup.

Then the move to Olimpia Milano where he won the tricolor in his first season, signing a record, since before him, no one in his first year on the Milanese bench managed to bring home the title of Italian champion; in the 2013-2014 season he reached the EuroLeague quarter-finals.

In 2018 he left Italy, first coaching Bamberg and then AEK Athens, with whom he won an Intercontinental Cup. In January 2021 he became Assistant Coach of the Long Island Nets, the Brooklyn Nets franchise playing in the NBA D-League. Last stops in Pesaro and Strasbourg where he leads both clubs to the playoffs. With the French club also an excellent European journey that ended in Game 3, which would have allowed access to the Champions League Final Four, eliminated by the future champions of Bonn.

Since 2021, coach Banchi has been coaching Latvia and leading them to their first historic qualification for a World Cup which concluded a few days ago with an extraordinary fifth place, celebrated in Riga with a real state party.
