Good food and entertainment, games for children and themed evenings at 1,320 meters above sea level. The season of the CAI refuge in Campocecina has started with the new management of Andrea Scagliola and Maria Isabel Carranza, CAI members from Savona and great mountain enthusiasts. A refuge which, thanks to the redevelopment of the road surface, can now be reached easily without the risk of having to replace the shock absorbers. The couple has recently taken over the management of the refuge and is preparing to welcome visitors with many new features. Starting with the interiors made more welcoming with new colours, photos, mountain posters and lots of wooden objects.

“Now that we can breathe the atmosphere of a refuge – comments Andrea Scagliola –, with great enthusiasm my partner Maria and I begin this new adventure. We thank the CAI of Carrara for the trust it has placed in us”. Andrea and Maria are two expert climbers who have combined their passion for the mountains with the management of refuges for over twenty years. Before the one in Campocecina they ran some structures in the Dolomites. “In addition to the new cuisine proposals such as speck eggs and potatoes, our goulash with polenta, platters of cold cuts and mountain cheeses and tagliatelle – says the new manager -, we are trying to beautify and make the refuge more welcoming. We have put in new plants, repainted the shutters and repaired the road. Then we worked on the fence of the access path, and made internal improvements in the rooms with repainted doors and stairs.”

And after the aesthetic improvements, Andrea and Maria are already thinking about how to animate the refuge on hot summer days, when hundreds flock to Campocecina to escape the city heat. “For the children there will be new games and a slide while for the adults there will be many summer initiatives – continues Scagliola –, in August we will organize a large barbecue and we are working to set up fish-based evenings. They will be on Wednesday or Thursday for the months of July and August they will be called ‘Apuan fish at the refuge’ with dishes such as spaghetti with seafood, fried fish and baked sea bream also the idea of making anchovy, also to take away the autumn and winter initiatives will start. Now the road is smooth, the cyclists have also reappeared and this is one more reason to come and taste our dishes and our hospitality immersed in a breathtaking view “.
