The city is catapulted into the Middle Ages. Tavarnuzze returns to the castle

Reduced edition for Tavarnuzze at the castle 2024: not an entire weekend, as usual, but only tomorrow afternoon Piazza Don Chellini will dress in medieval clothes for its historical representation.

It will be a “light” version in view of next year, on the tenth anniversary of the event, which – announces Samuele Sandrucci, president of the Pro Loco Tavarnuzze – will return “to the magic of the past that we managed to build at Vallombrosina”. In fact, until 2017 the initiative took place in the sacristy and in the adjacent land of the area owned by the clergy support institute.

The organizers organized a large costume party there, managing to reproduce the ancient castle and the events of 1135, when the armed forces of the newly formed Municipality of Florence besieged and destroyed the palace of the Buondelmonti family in Tavarnuzze, forcing them to move within the city walls. For years the structure was granted on loan for use to the parish of Tavarnuzze which in turn ‘loaned’ it to the Pro Loco in order to carry out this beautiful event. Every year hundreds of people climbed the hill to participate in the event.

But the free contract expired and was never renewed, leaving Vallombrosina in a state of abandonment. Since then the Pro Loco has worked hard to organize the event in the central square of Tavarnuzze.

The 2024 edition of Tavarnuzze al Castello will open tomorrow at 3pm with game stands and the Taverna de lo Gigante Bono, at 5pm the Palio dei Ragazzi, at 7pm the Palio dell’Anello, at 9pm the Historical Parade and at 10.30pm the show of the Flag-wavers of the City of Florence.
