He would have gone down to Sicily with three Moroccans, making them believe that thanks to some acquaintances they would have been able to easily get the driving licence. The foreigners would have therefore covered the costs of the trip and paid around 4,700 euros, but only one would have obtained the (false) driving licence, the others not even that. Salvatore Celesti, a 45-year-old Sicilian resident in Cingoli at the time of the events, is accused of two episodes of fraud, threats and ideological falsehood in a public act. According to the accusation, supported yesterday in court by prosecutor Raffaela Zuccarini, between April and July 2017 the man left for Sicily with the three Moroccans with the promise of getting them a driving licence. In addition to covering the expenses of the various trips, the three would have paid 2,250, 600 and 1,850 euros. While one of the three would have filled out a test in a hotel room (according to the prosecution, the accused would have thus simulated the exam) obtaining a fake driving licence, the others would have only paid without doing or receiving anything. However, in early July it came out that a foreigner was reported because he was found with a fake license and the Moroccan had burned the license he had just obtained. The other scam Celesti allegedly committed against a foreigner to whom he said that he had been delegated by the owner of an apartment to rent it to him (in reality he would have had the keys because he had to carry out small jobs inside). He had thus received 600 euros without handing over the apartment. When the foreigner went to the 45-year-old’s house to ask for his money back, the Sicilian allegedly threatened to have him mauled by a large Rottweiler. The latest accusation concerns a residence request presented to the Registry for a Moroccan with a false declaration of making a property available to the foreigner. Yesterday two of the three Moroccans were heard, one denied having paid to obtain the driving license saying that the test done in the hotel was only an exercise, the other said he had gone to Sicily but had done nothing to get driver’s license. The owner of the apartment where the Moroccan woman was supposed to live, who said he knew nothing about it, also denying a signature on a deed, and the commander of the Carabinieri station, Umberto Paglioni, were also interviewed. For the defense, supported by lawyers Giorgio Di Tomassi and Marco Murru, the objections are unfounded. We return to the classroom in March.
