PADUA – The last bell rang on Saturday, but for the students from Padua of a fifth higher than the end signed the beginning of the countdown to maturity. There will be more than 7 thousand Paduans who will place their Italian dictionary on the desk next Wednesday at half past eight for the first test: the essay. To be precise, 7,264 students between the city and the province which this week are reviewing the programs to prepare for what is probably the first great test of life, among these 6,920 will take the exam in state schools and 344 in private institutions, such as Don Bosco, Barbarigo and Padua. THE DATA
The numbers for the Padua high school diploma are essentially the same as in 2023, only 10 more students this yearconfirming that the decline in enrollments in schools due to the birth rate decline is a phenomenon that will still need a few years to be evident in high school.
The majority of Paduan high school students come from high school: 3,390 between classical, scientific, linguistic and artistic high schools. For them, the maturity includes, in addition to the theme, the second orientation test, which will be held next Thursday: mathematics for the scientific, version of Greek for the classical, language test for the linguistic and design disciplines for the artistic, the test which can last up to three days. The technical high school diploma will be attended by 2,862 boys and girls, while the professional high school diploma will be attended by 1,012. Among the graduates there were also 163 students who prepared for the exam as private students.
For everyone the common denominator remains the first test, the theme. Graduates will be able to choose from seven tracks, distributed across three typologies: text analysis, argumentative text and current affairs. Like every year, close to the first rehearsal, the search began for all the historical anniversaries that could inspire the ministry in the choice of tracks. One name above all goes around in the chats of Paduan graduates: Giacomo Matteotti in the argumentative theme for the centenary of his death.
THE COMMISSIONS
At an organizational level, there will be 171 commissions distributed across all schools in the province, down from 183 last year. An estimated number of working teachers of around 1,200 train them. This year the Ministry has established that the evaluating commission must be mixed, with an external commission president, three internal and three external teachers. On the Ministry’s website it is already possible to find out how the commissions for each institute will be composed.
A possibility that for Padua graduates means only one thing: the tam-tam to share as much information as possible on the external teachers who will evaluate the tests. It doesn’t take much to consider yourself at an advantage: if you know some of the committee president’s students, you will immediately discover which topics he asks for most frequently, and which will be worth reviewing more.
THE NEWS
Among the most anticipated new features of the 2024 final exam is the “Student’s Masterpiece”, a personal document in which candidates describe their experience in five years of high school, which must be uploaded to ministerial platforms but will not be evaluated in the final grade.
After the written tests, the oral exam awaits the graduates from Padua, which this year will begin with a starting point chosen by the commission, from which disciplinary connections can be made. The student will also have time for a short report on the school-work alternation.
