POTENZA – “Justice and Favors” investigation at the Court of Lecce: a preliminary hearing was held today in Potenza before the Gup Marianna Zampoli with the interrogation of the judge Alessandro Silvestrini and the accountant Giuseppe Evangelista, the first accused of corruption in judicial documents in competition with the accountant Massimo Bellantone and the second accused of corruption in judicial documents judicial and auction rigging in collaboration with judge Pietro Errede. Both had already been questioned before the Public Prosecutor during the investigation phase, claiming their non-involvement in the facts. Even today, Silvestrini clarified that no corrupt agreement had ever been concluded with Massimo Bellantone, according to him a long-time friend, excluding having given positions to Bellantone in exchange for his intervention with Roman politicians to support his nomination as President of the Court of Lecce, a position then held for a few months by Roberto Tanisi until his retirement last November.
Silvestrini declared that his candidacy did not require political support, given that the administrative judge had already recognized his right to hold that management position. Least of all, the magistrate continued, would he ever have sought political support from the Mazzottas, local representatives of Forza Italia. Finally invoking the culture of jurisdiction, Silvestrini addressed the public prosecutor in the courtroom, expressly inviting him to recognize the judicial error committed against him in this matter. As for Giuseppe Evangelista, he declared with papers in hand and documents in his favor that he had not favored judge Errede in the electronic auction procedure, which, due to its structure, cannot be subject to disruption by anyone, taking place entirely on the electronic platform of the Ministry of Justice and with offers that the delegate does not know until the opening of the tender.
He then clarified that in many years he had received only very few assignments from Errede, demonstrating, with provisions filed in documents, that he had also suffered heavy reductions on the severance payments obtained, which moreover were the responsibility of the Board and not of the individual judge. The hearing concluded with Dr. Errede made short statements which clarified that Evangelista had never been shown any specific interest in the individual auction and that in any case the information obtained from the professional was information that could be found on the advertising sites of online auctions. Next hearing on June 26th with the long deposition of judge Errede who not only intends to clarify his position in relation to the charges brought against him, but will shed light on a Lecce system which according to him does not belong to him.
