«As the Puglia Region, through AdP, we have been carrying out, since last March, the total renovation of the passenger terminal at Grottaglie airport for 9 million euros. We have already fully financed the entire work for 12 million euros, with the Province having built the road link from the Taranto-Brindisi highway to the airport. We redid the taxiway. We have expanded the aircraft apron two and a half times. We have completely renovated all the hangars.”

Cosimo Borraccino, Advisor to the President of the Puglia Region for the implementation of the Taranto plan, reminds us of this in a note.

«In total in recent years – writes Borraccino -, as a Region, we have financed and carried out works for around 40 million euros, to enhance and strengthen the airport structure which is equipped with one of the longest runways in Italy. As the Puglia Region, we believe in the possibility that as soon as the works for the complete renovation of the passenger terminal are completed by 2025, through the synergy with Enac and the Ministry of Transport, we will be able to achieve the goal long awaited by the citizens of our province: the activation of the scheduled passenger flights from Grottaglie airport.

We have been working closely with the President of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, and with the management and technicians of Aeroporti di Puglia for years to make our airport increasingly competitive.

These are the concepts that I expressed today, in Taranto, at the Provincial Palace, where I had been invited, together with other institutional figures, to the assembly of the pro-Grottaglie airport associations.

Finally, I clarified an important aspect: AdP, Aeroporti di Puglia, is the public company concessionaire of the airport but the property belongs to Enac and the Ministry of Transport. Beyond some physiological controversy, it was a useful meeting and I reiterated my full availability for continuous dialogue to work together towards the final objective.”
