Further guarantees for a growing sector. The ‘Monferrato Frutta’ will act as the glue

It was the year 2010, exactly on 20 July, when the corilicolo supply chain agreement was signed for the first time between the Novi-Elah-Dufour confectionery group and Coldiretti Alessandria. In recent years the project has not only been regularly renewed but has grown and broadened its horizons by arriving in the Asti area and creating a cooperative, Monferrato Frutta, to deal with research, dissemination, promotion and valorisation of hazelnuts “from our hills”. .

Today, with the signature of Dr. Guido Repetto, president of the Elah Dufour Novi Group, Cristina Brizzolari, president of Coldiretti Piemonte, and Giovanni Brusasca, president of Monferrato Frutta, a further step forward has been taken, becoming in effect a regional supply chain contract.

Mauro Bianco, president of Coldiretti Alessandria and board member of Coldiretti Piemonte with territorial delegation to the hazelnut sector, illustrated the path and growth of the agreement. It was also an opportunity to present the dossier with the data of the framework agreement, which will involve all the Piedmontese provinces in the supply of hazelnuts, and the economic analysis of the new supply chain project.

A product that the whole world identifies as an excellence and which involves 8,000 Piedmontese companies with 27 thousand hectares of cultivated area for an average total production of 200 thousand quintals and almost 80 million euros in turnover. Important numbers destined to grow also for the Alessandria production which has a base of 3,750 hectares between breeding and adult phase distributed throughout the entire provincial hilly territory, around 500 companies involved in the hazelnut production chain.

“The Piedmont hazelnut sector is growing, so much so that in 10 years the cultivated area has increased by 80%. The quality of the Tonda Gentile Trilobata is absolute, its characteristics make it a valuable and sought-after product, our commitment must be to offer absolute excellence and this supply chain agreement goes precisely in that direction – stated President Coldiretti Alessandria Mauro Bianco -. Being able to count on a leading company in the sector such as Novi-Elah-Dufour which selects the best quality hazelnuts in Piedmont as valuable ingredients in its food production, paying particular attention to their traceability and the valorisation of their territorial identity , fills us with pride.”

In practice, under the direction of Coldiretti, on the one hand we find Monferrato Frutta whose task is to carry out the necessary surveys and direct producers towards correct technical and cultivation choices by monitoring the global picture of the crop. Novi-Elah-Dufour, for its part, selects the best quality hazelnuts in Piedmont as valuable ingredients in its food production, paying particular attention to their traceability and the valorisation of their territorial identity.

“Today we are renewing for another 5 years a real supply chain agreement, now extended throughout Piedmont”, was the comment of Dr. Guido Repetto, President of the Elah Dufour Novi Group. “Since we took over Novi in 1985, with the aim of transforming it into a leading company, we have always believed in bringing local hazelnut producers together for our products, and this is the thread that binds us to Coldiretti. For us the company must be an expression of the territory, of the people who represent it and of the raw materials it can offer: if we think of hazelnuts, therefore, we think of hazelnuts from Piedmont”.

“The agreement, created to finalize and materialize support for the development of provincial coriliculture, has now become regional, synonymous with the impulse for a virtuous economy that increasingly aims at valorising local production, support for companies that believe in production of quality, committing themselves with their work to preserving biodiversity. Choosing and tasting Novi’s ‘hazelnut delicacies’ means believing in the distinctiveness and skills of those who make that territory unique”, concluded Coldiretti Alessandria Director Roberto Bianco.
