MASS – The green light for the restyling arrived in May and the project developed by architect Tiziano Lera is now in the executive phase, which splits public opinion, which is not convinced of the new appearance that the square will have.

The appearance of the new square in front of the Marina di Massa pier continues to divide, already under the eye of the storm due to the black fountain installed last year.

While on the one hand, in the city, there are many criticisms of the project, considered inadequate and not representative of the city, tourists who see the construction site for the first time observe with curiosity the “turtle” shape that the space around the fountain will take on.

The green light for the restyling arrived in May and the project drawn up by architect Tiziano Lera is now in the executive phase which involves completion works for a cost of around 200 thousand euros which is in addition to that initially incurred for the removal of the existing Compass Rose and the construction of the fountain.

The interventions will soften the visual impact of the square and the fountain by creating around it the ‘silhouette’ of flowers in the shape of a sea turtle heading towards the beach. It is hoped that this modification will act as a deterrent to those, tourists and residents, who would have used it as a “foot washing” tub. Furthermore, a new compass rose will be created in the center of the square using marble of various qualities. The objective is to transform the square into a place where the arts, poetry and culture of Massa are integrated into a unique landscape.

What is certain is that the timing will hinder the start of the tourist season, because the works will continue for several more weeks.
