The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Auditors and the Financial Police of Naples have discovered a round of undue disbursements of public funds in the Campania Region, which has caused treasury damage of over 3.6 million euros.

17 managers and former managers were accused of conduct characterized by “gross gross negligence”. The disputes concern two periods:

May 1st 2019 – April 30th 2021: In this period, 1,485,150 euros would have gone to secretarial managers and 489,129 euros to administrative coordinators, for a total of 1,974,279 euros.
May 1, 2021 – December 31, 2022: In this period, 1,267,882 euros were paid to secretarial managers and 446,016.41 euros to administrative coordinators, for a total of 1,713,898.41 euros.
Among those accused are the current president of the Campania Regional Council, Gennaro Oliviero, and the former president Rosa D’Amelio.

The complaints in detail:

  1. Rosa D’Amelio: 20% of the ascertained damage, for 394,855.80 euros
    Antonio Marciano: 10% of the ascertained damage, for 197,427.9 euros
    Massimo Grimaldi: 20% of the ascertained damage for 394,855.80 euros and 10% of the ascertained damage for 171,389.84 euros
    Vincenzo Maraio: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 98,713.95 euros
    Flora Beneduce: 10% of the ascertained damage, for 197,427.9 euros
    Ermanno Russo: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 98,713.95 euros
    Tommaso Casillo: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 98,713.95 euros
    Santa Brancati: 10% of the ascertained damage, for 197,427.9 euros
    Lucius Varriale: 15% of the ascertained damage, for 296,141.85 euros
    Gennaro Oliviero: 45% of the total quota, for 771,254.28 euros
    Loredana Raia: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 85,694.92 euros
    Valeria Ciarambino: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 85,694.92 euros
    Andrea Volpe: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 85,694.92 euros
    Fulvio Frezza: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 85,694.92 euros
    Alfonso Piscitelli: 5% of the ascertained damage, for 85,694.92 euros
    Mario Vasco: 10% of the ascertained damage, for 171,389.84 euros
    Maria Salerno: 10% of the ascertained damage, for 171,389.84 euros

Those responsible will have to answer for serious conduct that caused significant damage to public coffers.

This case is a worrying example of how mismanagement and corruption can steal precious resources from citizens and hinder the proper functioning of institutions.

It is important that clarity is clarified about what happened and that those responsible are punished. Citizens have the right to know how their money is spent and to be protected from illicit behaviour.
