Carpi, the full arrival among confirmations and young faces

Carpi, 14 June 2024 – After the election of the mayor and the identification of the next councilors, on the mathematical basis of the preferences obtained, while waiting for the names of the councilors to become official, as per tradition the ‘toto’ council goes crazy. The new mayor Riccardo Righi, after the inauguration ceremony, did not want to say too much about it. When asked about his next council, he limited himself to stating: “It will have to be the best team to obtain the best results with respect to the great electoral programme. A competent council but also capable of being close to the people. There could be reconfirmations, yes , and I also hope that the young element is present: on the other hand, a 34-year-old mayor certainly guarantees a good average.”

In continuity with the last composition of the Bellelli Council (of which Righi himself was part as councilor for urban planning and the environment, among the various delegations), there will be seven councillors. The local elections outlined a clear picture with a majority in the City Council made up of 15 councilors: 12 from the Democratic Party, two from the ‘Carpi a Colori’ civic list and one from AVS (Alleanza Versi Sinistra). Traditionally, the political forces represented in the Council are those with representation in the council, therefore in light of these balances of power, it is foreseeable that the new team will include members of the Democratic Party, which will have the majority, as well as representatives of ‘Carpi a Colori’ and AVS: following this line, we could hypothesize a distribution of four councilors for the Democratic Party, two for ‘Carpi a Colori’ and one for AVS.

For the Democratic Party, the reconfirmation of Mariella Lugli, outgoing councilor of the Bellelli council, where she held the responsibility for security and the budget, is taken for granted. And there is no shortage of those who hypothesize her role as deputy mayor. Another very popular name is that of Marco Reggiani, former secretary of the Democratic Party and defined by many as very close to Righi. The other two places will have to go to a man and a woman: Marco Truzzi was elected to the city council but the fact that he resigned mid-term from the Bellelli council would exclude him from the shortlist of names.

The former councilor Davide Dalle Ave would have given his availability. In line with Righi’s philosophy, young new councilors could be eligible, such as Riccardo Martino and Klaudia Kumaraku, but their lack of experience (due to their young age) must be weighed. As regards ‘Carpi a Colori’, the list of Righi himself, the name of Andrea Rostovi is increasingly insistent, not only due to his central role in the SubitoAppena association and in Concentrico, but also for his close bond with Righi during the election campaign. It will also be necessary to nominate a woman, but the names are still uncertain. Someone raised the name of Lucia Verrini, who had already been called into question when, at the beginning of January 2023, the then mayor Bellelli had attempted to expand the majority “to other political forces in the center-left”. Finally, AVS, which obtained a good electoral result (5.04%), will certainly guarantee representation in the council. The main candidates are Tamara Calzolari, former councilor for health and social policies, and Andrea Artioli, former councilor for sport and greenery and newly elected councilor with almost 100 personal preferences. The new mayor will have to use all his political mediation skills to define the team within the first session of the city council, which will have to meet within the next 20 days1
