Nearly half a million people to be displaced in 72 hours. Away from the Phlegraean Fields. By train, bus or ship to the ‘twinned’ regions. The citizens of Pozzuoli in Lombardy, those of Bacoli between Umbria and Marche, Monte di Procida between Abruzzo and Molise, in Lazio the residents of the Neapolitan neighborhood of Fuorigrotta”. The newspaper La Repubblica describes the plan envisaged if the most catastrophic, and at the moment least probable, scenario linked to the volcanic risk in the Caldera area were to materialise. However, it does not concern the issue of bradyseism, which is also affecting the area, but for which a mass evacuation plan is not envisaged.

The largest number of displaced people is destined for Lombardy, where the “twinning” provides for the accommodation of approximately 77 thousand residents of Pozzuoli. The definitive plan does not yet exist, but the Region has established an inter-directional group which is currently defining the lines of action in detail. Different solutions are evaluated.
