CATANIA – The braziers for roasting and eating, in Piazza Dante and in Via di Sangiuliano, were placed in the middle of the street, complete with authentic dehors, external spaces equipped with tables, characteristic of bars and restaurants, totally illegal. For this reason, the police in Piazza Dante reported two owners and seized the illegal structures.

Among the charges there is also illegal construction, respectively for the construction of a closed metal structure and a fixed metal structure. One of the two owners, a 22 year old from Catania, he would then also violate the seals and would have been found by the military inside the seized area, of which she had been appointed guardian by the carabinieri themselves.

The objective of these checks, the Army explains, is return the architectural and cultural beauties of the historic center of Catania to citizens and touristssometimes hidden by the construction of dehors without any authorization.

The showcase and the brazier

In one case, as mentioned, the Carabinieri and the Local Police discovered that a metal structure had been built without any authorization closed of 30 m2, approximately 3 meters high, which completely occupied the pavement in front of the business. In front, 9 tables, 33 chairs, a fridge display case and even a brazier had been positioned.

For the owner of the grill, a 22-year-old from Catania, it clicked the administrative sanction for occupation of public land and the complaint for “illegal construction”. Then for “theft or damage to things subject to seizure”.

In another business, the owner, whose age was not disclosed, allegedly illegally built a fixed metal structure with a roof and platform anchored to the ground of approximately 25 m2, inside which there were tables and chairs for customers. In front of the structure, on the road, there was a brazier, 15 tables, 38 chairs, 4 planters and other materialswho illegally occupied public land.

Also in this case, in addition to the administrative sanctions, the owner was reported for “illegal building”. All the materials present in the middle of the road have been placed under administrative seizure and were transported to the warehouse of the Municipality of Catania with the vans supplied to the Local Police.

The validation

Instead, for the two structures built illegally, having noted the absence of building permits, the criminal seizure was triggered. After having demarcated the areas and affixed the appropriate seals, the Carabinieri entrusted them to the custody of the two owners.

The criminal seizures were validated by the investigating judge of Catania, who ordered the restoration of the places by the owners, who they have already taken steps to dismantle all the illegally built structuresreturning to the city a portion of the historic center that was previously unusable.
