PADUA – With Italy’s first match at the European Football Championships, tomorrow at 9pm against Albania, the city is preparing to experience a summer of sport.

Big screens in parks

Among the outdoor events that have scheduled and confirmed the giant screen for tomorrow is the Milcovich Park, at the Arcella, with the traditional “Arcella Bella” event which confirmed not only tomorrow’s match but also that of next Thursday (Italy-Spain) and the 24th (Italy-Croatia). But also Sherwood Festivalin the area next to the Euganeo stadium; Prandina Park in Corso Milano and the Alpine Park in the Montà area with two giant screens. Inevitable Naviglio, on the Piovego embankment, which has been organizing the screening of the blue adventure on three giant screens for months. The Europa Park, next to the Cittadella della Stanga, did not confirm the projection for tomorrow but for the next two matches of the group. «The arrival of the European Championships and the national team’s matches does not only represent a great moment of sport – explains Antonio Bressa, councilor for Commerce – but above all the opportunity to be together and share the spectacle of football in the city’s meeting places. Even for Europeans, the city will be able to experience this moment with its distinctive characteristics, that is, those of a living city that offers citizens, but also students and tourists a vast range of entertainment.” Not just outdoor events: many venues including bars, pizzerias and restaurants are also equipping themselves with season tickets to screen national team matches.

Costs for operators

«There will be around a hundred bars and restaurants that will have big screens in the city – says Filippo Segato, secretary of APPE (Provincial Association of Public Businesses) -. The costs for the operator who starts from scratch without any subscription are on average around 400 euros. If, however, the operator is a Rai subscriber only for the radio, he must integrate the current subscription by possibly canceling by the end of the year, otherwise from 2025 he will have to pay the full license fee. I recommend a six-monthly subscription which is around 200 euros. Likewise, you must supplement your Siae subscription by paying 1/5 of the normal fee for television sets and for this reason there is no cancellation option.” The Siae fee varies based on the square meters of the room: up to 75 square meters the amount is 46.12 euros, between 76 and 250 it is 59.35 euros, between 251 and 500 it is 98.05 euros . There are also some obstacles, beyond the price of memberships, that discourage restaurateurs. «Many owners are undecided because sustaining an expense with the risk that the national team does not reach the semi-final or final is a risk of making a loss – continues Segato – Another obstacle is the competition with parks, parishes and meeting points outdoors that take customers away to the bars and resounding. What is certain is that two years ago there were Covid rules and therefore there was a boom in theaters. For this year’s European Championships, according to my prediction, there will be more venues equipped with monitors than in 2022.” The places in the historic center that want to place the monitor also in the stalls, if any, can do so by keeping the volume at zero and the television set must be positioned in such a way as to avoid crowds, only consumers sitting at the tables or in the immediate vicinity must be able to watch it .
