sun and stability before the super heat

After days of uncertainty, here comes the good weather over Italy. Despite some showers still around the corner for the Northern regions, Today, June 14th, and the weekend will finally be characterized by stable weather. A stability that, unfortunately, will not last long. From the beginning of next week, experts predict, the Peninsula will be overwhelmed by the effects of the African Anticyclone with its ‘super heat’ until at least June 20th.

Cyclone moves towards the Balkans, now the African Anticyclone arrives

Antonio Sanò, founder of the site www.iLMeteo.it, confirms the move away towards the Balkans of the cyclonic circulation source of the storms of the last 24 hours; even the humid and unstable Atlantic flow, responsible for the continuous storms in the North from 8 to 13 June, seems to have moved beyond the Alps.

From this synoptic European situation emerges a calmer Italy, at least for the moment.

In the next few hours the sun will be dominant over our country, especially in the Centre-South; in the North there will be scattered cloud cover with some isolated showers in the Alps. Maximum temperatures will not exceed 31-32°C in the South, 26-28°C in the Centre-North. You’ll be fine.

The weekend will follow more or less the same script, with good weather in the Center-South and a few more clouds in the North: in particular, on Saturday, thunderstorms are expected in the Western Alps and from the afternoon onwards will cross the high plains of Piedmont and Lombardy. For the rest the weather will be nice and sunny and not yet hot: highs are expected to reach 33-35°C only in Sicily and Sardinia, in the Centre-North we will reach 30, an acceptable temperature for mid-June.

‘The calm after the storm’ will not last long: to disturb a pleasant period of weather, not strong storms will arrive but rather the African Anticyclone, even more powerful and extensive.

From next Monday it will be very hot, up to 34°C also in Rome (not excluding 38-39°C in Marche and southern Umbria), up to 42°C in Sicily and Sardinia; the heat will expand to Northern Italy with a humid and therefore very muggy 33°C, and even with peaks of 36°C expected in Emilia Romagna from next Wednesday.

This second heat wave of 2024 will therefore affect all of Italy and will last a long time in the Centre-South; probably in the North we will have some refreshing showers already for the Summer Solstice (20 June), but obviously this is a trend to be confirmed. In the meantime, let’s enjoy a great weekend and then we’ll get ready to sweat, starting next Monday.
