The Court of Pisa has condemned a cosmetic surgeon and the healthcare facility where he worked to compensate a woman with approximately 85 thousand euros for the permanent injuries caused following a breast lift operation. The sentence was issued on June 10 and the facts began 15 years ago, when the victim of the affair was just 24 years old and she decided to go to the doctor for a routine operation, the so-called mastopexy with prosthesis, for aesthetic reasons.
The young woman meant it “lift” her breastsbut right from the start the surgical interventions did not have the hoped-for aesthetic effects, so much so that the woman – after going under the knife for the first time – had to undergo extensive 4 subsequent interventions and in a short time due to a succession of errors on the part of the cosmetic surgeon, again according to the Pisan judges, which in the end left her with definitive and permanent injuries with the total disappearance of even one nipple.
The girl had been operated on for the first time on 23 March 2009, but after a few days of high fever and pain, as she had a hematoma at the level of the nipple of the right breast and an alteration of the same, she was subjected to a second operation on April 4 of the same year. On April 14th she then underwent a third operation for the “surgical treatment of the residual hematoma”. Less than two months later the cosmetic surgeon intervened again to replace the prostheses initially inserted with others of larger volume.

According to the expert opinion ordered by the judge, the woman’s breasts at the end of the 4 operations were found to be “heavily compromised in its aesthetic value, dysmorphic, and even highly unpleasant”, certainly regarding the right breast without the nipple, replaced by scar tissue. In addition to the aesthetic consequences, the result was a symptomatology represented by widespread pain in the right breast with preclusion of breastfeeding natural breast, both previous and current.
Due to these reasons, and due to the young age of the patient at the time of the events, the surgeon and the clinic to which the woman had turned were sentenced to compensate her with 85 thousand euros.
