Avellino, PD against mayoral candidate Laura Nargi: «Clarify your position»

There first week of election campaign for the runoff continues with back and forth blows between the two teams that reached the final play-off, with queues of poison and accusations linked in particular to the legal affairs which concerned the former mayor on the one hand, Gianluca Festaand part of its administration, on the other Alto Calore and the Municipality of Monteforte Irpino led by representatives of the Democratic Party.

Waiting for the possible American-style public confrontation between the two aspiring mayorsAntonio Gengaro and Laura Nargi, the controversy between the former deputy mayor and her old party, the Democratic Party, takes center stage.

In particular, Nargi replies to the outgoing democratic council group: «The Democratic Party of administrative disasters which have negatively characterized the last twenty years of the history of our province is simply unable to talk about politics and correct administrative management. Aware of his own failures, he continues to divert the discussion onto the improvident terrain of hypocritical justice. I had hoped to have already clarified during the countless interviews given on the topic of the investigations concerning the Municipality of Avellino and after the last and unpleasant invective addressed to me by the centre-left candidate for mayor, Antonio Gengaro, that the trials are carried out in the courtrooms and that we are profoundly respectful of the investigations that the judiciary is legitimately conducting.”

“Given the above, believing it is our duty to talk to citizens about issues and proposals for Avellino of the future precisely with respect to the theme of the correct management of public affairs, I cited the negative examples represented by the 200 million debts contracted by the Pd-led Alto Calore, by the Asidep disaster still recorded under Democratic management and by the dissolution of the Municipality due to mafia infiltration of Monteforte, equally led by a mayor of the Democratic Party. But the usual refrain started. Not being able to refute these concrete examples of bad management, the unspecified PD group once again brought up a judicial question. Inherent, this time, High Heat. But in this way he created two masterpieces in one fell swoop: on the one hand, he proved us right, confirming the obsession with investigations and the emptiness of the political proposal; on the other hand, you have forgotten what we, out of guarantees and institutional courtesy, had omitted in the previous statement. That is, that investigation also and above all concerns the former president of Alto Calore, a member of the Democratic Party.”

The former deputy mayor, also reached by guarantee information as part of the investigation which brought the former mayor under house arrest, accuses the exponents of the Democratic Party of having little guarantee culture: «It is in the final stages that the ineffable democratic councilors gave their best. Going so far as to argue that «the people of Avellino cannot be interested in anything about the procedural truth. A statement as serious as it is lunar which best summarizes the degree of short-sightedness and envy to which some have reached, but above all the total absence of a guarantee culture and even the slightest respect for the social importance of the work of judges. The people of Avellino do not deserve such barbarity. But once again they will be the ones to judge.”

A clash destined to continue in these terms. The same members of the Democratic Party at Palazzo di Città had asked the former deputy mayor to express her opinion on what the judiciary hypothesizes happened, in particular on the scene, immortalized by the investigators’ cameras, of the former mayor dismantling and taking away the Municipality’s computer, to clarify what his thoughts are, as a former personnel councilor, on the competitions that the Prosecutor’s Office describes as rigged, and on the failure to publish resolutions and decisions in the praetorian notice board for at least two years. But, above all, they had asked her to say right now whether or not in the event of a trial, and in the event of her victory in the elections, she had made the commitment to join the Municipality as a civil party against the defendants. Questions and possible answers which, we can bet, will certainly return over the next few days.
