Coca Cola invests 4 million euros in the Marcianise plant

Coca-Cola HBC Italia, the main bottler of The Coca-Cola Company branded products on the national territory, today published “Let’s celebrate the world of tomorrow together”, its 20th Sustainability Report, reviewed by Deloitte & Touche and drawn up according to the international reporting parameters GRI Standards (Global Reporting Initiative).

Over the last 20 years, the company has reported progress in terms of social and environmental sustainability, anticipating issues that are now at the center of public interest, such as the circularity of packaging and the valorisation of skills. A goal that also represents a starting point for the Marcianise factory in Campania, as demonstrated by the 4 million euros invested by Coca-Cola HBC Italia in 2024 in areas such as health and safety, water and energy efficiency and packaging circularity. “Since 2004 we have been putting down on paper the commitments and goals achieved in terms of sustainability, aware of the responsibility we have towards consumers, customers, partners, institutions and the communities in which we operate.” declares Giangiacomo Pierini, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director of Coca-Cola HBC Italia.

“According to an SDA Bocconi study, Coca-Cola generates in Campania, directly and through related industries, over 1600 jobs and distributes more than 40 million euros in resources, equal to 0.03% of the regional GDP. These numbers demonstrate that we are part of the local economy and social fabric and, if given the opportunity to do so without the burden of penalizing taxes, we will continue to invest and transparently promote our way of doing sustainable business, in the factories and along the entire value chain”. Sustainability for Coca-Cola develops in three directions: environment, people and community and takes shape with projects and results reported in the report. With the Coca-Cola HBC NetZeroby40 Group program, launched in 2021, the company is committed to eliminating CO2 emissions in Scope 1, 2 and 3 by 2040. – A trigeneration plant was installed in Marcianise in 2016 capable of producing electrical energy and hot and cold thermal energy at the same time and on new high-efficiency compressors for blowing bottles, which also guarantee the reduction of CO2 emissions. – In 2021 Marcianise was the first factory to introduce KeelClip™ technology to the Italian market, an innovative packaging system, made of FSC paper from a responsible and 100% recyclable supply chain, which allows the plastic wrapping to be completely eliminated from multiple packs of cans.

In 2023, the company boasts over 40% women in managerial positions, among these, Monica Rispoli, director of the Marcianise factory, and Maria Pia Maio, responsible for logistics for all of southern Italy. The company wants to guarantee a better balance between private and professional life. Already in 2013 it had introduced monotimbratura and, in 2014, remote working. COMMUNITY: support for local communities and young people. There are numerous projects carried out with local and national non-governmental associations to support the communities with which Coca-Cola HBC Italia operates. For years the company has supported associations and events that promote the value of love and the overcoming of every division, to protect the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community outside and inside the organization, collaborating with the main Pride events in the regions where Coca-Cola HBC Italy is present, like that of Naples and Turin and with the Padua Pride Village, developing projects together in the communities with a focus on shelters. Since 2021, Coca-Cola HBCI has supported Casa delle Culture e dell’Accoglienza for LGBT people. – Coca-Cola HBC Italia Foundation is constantly committed to collaborating with associations involved in the area such as Star Judo Club, to make a significant contribution to those who carry forward the values of sport in socially disadvantaged areas. The collaboration with Banco Alimentare has made it possible, in the last 7 years alone, to distribute over 14 million meals to people in conditions of economic and social fragility, also thanks to the contribution of employees as volunteers. Through the #YouthEmpowered program, the company offers young students courses, workshops and mentorships with Coca-Cola HBC Italia managers, to support them in the transition between school and the world of work. Between 2018 and 2023, more than 250,000 under 30s were trained.
