Brescia. From 14 to 16 June Fondazione Brescia Musei joins the European Archeology Days (GEA), the initiative coordinated by the French National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP – lnstitut national de recherches archéologiques préventives) under the aegis of the Transalpine Ministry of Culture and with the patronage of the Council of Europe.
Since the first edition, held in 2010, the Journées Nationales de l’Archéologie (JNA) has seen considerable development. In 2019, having reached their tenth edition in France, they opened their doors to the international community, the following year they took on their current name of Journées Européennes de l’Archéologie (JEA).
The General Directorate of Museums has expressed interest in joining, thus introducing the event in Italy, in the third weekend of June.
All state and non-state places of culture are invited to participate by organizing cultural events and initiatives of an informative or educational nature that highlight ongoing archaeological projects and activities, the specificity of which most of the time remains closed to non-experts.
In Brescia, the Brescia Musei Foundation organized two meetings dedicated to this anniversary.
Saturday 15 June, at 3.30 pm for families with children between 6 and 11 years old will be able to participate in a large-scale game at the Santa Giulia Museum that will test the archaeological knowledge of the participants: “Archeologist mission”. A board game to approach the profession of an archaeologist while having fun, learning the research method and discovering the ancient heritage of our region, created in collaboration with MA_net, the network of archaeological museums in the provinces of Brescia, Cremona and Mantua. On Sunday 16 June, from 5pm to 7pm, visitors will be able to take part in exceptional guided tours, departing every 30 minutes, at the Archaeological depot of the Santa Giulia Museum. A unique opportunity, not to be missed, to discover one of the archaeological deposits inside the Santa Giulia Museum. During the visit, the space hidden between the museum sections will be presented, its organization will be illustrated with the different functions reserved for museum staff and scholars (conservation, research, storage) and the methods of conservation of the finds as well as management of the finds will be shared. the extensive archaeological heritage of the museums of Brescia.
