Pozzuoli, former mayor Figliolia is released

Vincenzo Figliolia

An important judicial turning point marks the story of the former mayor of Pozzuoli, Vincenzo Figliolia. The release order ordered by the Review Court was carried out against him. The request for revocation of the precautionary measure presented by his lawyer was accepted, Luigi De Vita.
Figliolia, accused of bid rigging and corruption in the tender for the management of Rione Terra, had been under house arrest for around five months. The legal case began with his detention at the Poggioreale prison, where he remained for a week before being transferred to house arrest on January 22nd. The decision of the Review Court to revoke house arrest marks a turning point for the former mayor.

The Court decided to accept the arguments presented by Figliolia’s defense, represented by the lawyer De Vita, who argued that the conditions necessary to maintain the precautionary measure did not exist. With the lifting of house arrest, the possibility opens up for Figliolia to return to playing an active role in local politics. After the arrest, the city councilor was suspended from his position under the Severino law, which provides for the temporary suspension of local administrators in the event of precautionary measures. The municipal assembly had therefore voted for the temporary subrogation of his role.
