The G7 in Puglia, Meloni: «An offer of values ​​that we open to the world»

The agreement on the use of profits on frozen assets to Russia was reached at the negotiation level. This was announced by one of the Sherpas participating in the G7 work underway in Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, under the Italian presidency.

Now, it is underlined again, the final green light from the leaders is awaited. The agreement should include a 50 billion dollar fund to support Kiev to be released within the year.

The international meeting, said Giorgia Meloni, «is not a fortress closed in on itself, which must defend itself from someone, it is an offer of values ​​that we open to the world with the aim of shared development».

The topics of today’s summit concern, in addition to Ukraine, also Africa, climate and poverty agenda, Middle East, infrastructure and investments.

AFRICA – Charles Michel, President of the European Council, confirmed how Africa is, for all the members of the G7, an important continent. Hence the starting point for investments in infrastructure, digital and telecommunications. Michel espoused the idea of ​​«building partnerships based on mutual respect and trust».

VON DER LEYEN – «Today the G7 in Bari will show unity – the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, writes in X – Unity for the freedom of Ukraine. Unity for a peaceful and stable Middle East. Unity on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”

POPE FRANCESCO – Pope Francis’ program at the G7 includes 10 bilateral meetings. Among these the one with US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky, French Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
