New antennas, the Municipality’s stop in Lerici. “Not compatible with the landscape”

Lerici (La Spezia), 14 June 2024 – There are those who say no to the installation of antennas of new generation. TO Lerici, the municipal offices denied one of the telecommunications giants the possibility of replacing the three existing antennas located on the roof of the town hall with as many 4G-5G hybrid antennas. The provision dates back to last Tuesday, with the Lerici offices which at the end of the services conference denied the replacement and implementation of the base radio station. The basis for the Municipality’s decision was a series of negative opinions received during the consultation, including that of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Ligurian Landscape, according to which “despite the fact that the current legislation assimilates the infrastructures of public communication networks to primary urbanization works of a public utility nature, it is noted that the proposed modification to the system does not achieve the necessary balance between monumental and landscape protection and the needs of providing the public service”. Not only that, for the Superintendence itself it underlines that “technological evolution should allow the reduction of the overall dimensions of the systems, not their increase.impact determined by the existing system on the historic building and on the valuable reference context from which it is clearly visible has reached a limit that cannot be further exceeded with the insertion of increasingly larger antennas”, with the institution suggesting to the company to evaluate the possibility of alternative locations or the use of alternative technologies that allow a reduction of existing systems.

Opinion the contrary was also expressed by the Territorial and Urban Planning Service of the Municipality, which considered the intervention not compatible with the Territorial Plan of the Liguria Region and with the specific landscape protection constraint for the area, as it was “extremely worsening in dimensional terms compared to to a current situation that already has a significant impact on the landscape context”. A contrary opinion was also expressed by the local landscape commission, according to which “the 360-degree visual impact of the existing antenna is already extremely invasive; the dimensions of the proposed new antennas are excessive and disproportionate compared to the tower below”.
