Agreement signed between the president of the Tuscan Historical Institute of the Resistance and the general secretary of the CGIL Toscana
Trade unionists “at school” to learn more about the history of the Republic and the Constitution. This is what is foreseen in a three-year agreement signed by Vannino Chitipresident ofTuscan Historical Institute of the Resistance and the Contemporary Age And Rossano Rossi, general secretary of the CGIL Toscana. The signature took place symbolically at the desk, preserved by the ISRT, where in 1921 the squadristi killed Spartaco Lavagnini, the first martyr of Italian anti-fascism.
The memorandum of understanding provides that training activitiesconducted by the scientific representatives of the ISRT, are addressed to the union’s delegates, executives and regional managers. It will be the subject of study history of the twentieth century and in particular the events that concern them fascism and anti-fascism, the Resistance, the birth of Republican Italy and the international context. Special attention will be paid to the values and contents of the Italian constitutionthe context in which it was drawn up, the relationship between democracy and freedom and the central role of work.
“Training does not only concern young people, but also those who have significant social functions such as trade unionists – he underlines Vannino Chiti – We really appreciate the choice of the CGIL, we wanted there to also be representatives of the CISL and the UIL in the Commission of the Institute which deals with training, I therefore hope that this first agreement will be followed by others”.
“This collaboration aims to give further strength to the anti-fascist matrix of our organization, enhance the Resistance, freedom, the Constitution – highlights Rossano Rossi – For us it is a precious opportunity to be able to work together with the institute to offer positive training opportunities to our officials”.
The activity, which will be coordinated by the professor Gianmario Leoniresponsible for the ISRT teaching commission, is included in the priority choice of the Institute dfavor training activities and strengthen collaboration with local associations.
The Institute makes available, in addition to its skills, a valuable asset document archive which includes the funds of Piero Calamandrei, of Gaetano Salvemini, of the Tuscan National Liberation Committee, of Justice and Freedom, of the former trade unionist and president of the Region Gianfranco Bartolini. A symbolic object is also preserved at the ISRT, the desk where Spartaco Lavagnini, leader of the Italian Railwaymen’s Union and secretary of the Communist Party of Italy, was murdered by the fascist squadristi. It was February 27, 1921, the beginning of what would be called the “black” two-year period.
