Next Saturday 15 June, Besnate will immerse itself in a medieval atmosphere with the Medieval Dinner and the Investiture Ceremony of the Consuls of the Villages. The event, which will be held in Piazza Santa Maria al Castello, will begin at 7.30pm and represents the preview of the Minipaliothe popular challenge between the four “villages” that make up Besnate.
The Investiture Ceremony involves the presentation of the highest offices of each village and their oath, followed by the branding of the Podestà and the weighing of the barrels of the four villages by the Captain of Justice. Furthermore, there will be performances by the Besnate Flag-Waving Group and a historical re-enactment of a medieval duel (see here on the Minipalio website).
The Medieval Dinner, accessible only by reservation until June 12th, presents two menus: one for adults, at a cost of 20 euros, and one for children, at 8 euros. The adult menu includes Pasta Rustega or Medieval Chicken with onions and a Castellana tart. For children, there is a sandwich with salami and chips, followed by the same delicious tart.
During the evening, there will be medieval music and dance performances in period costumes, games for children and an open food stand with beer and wine for everyone.
The Besnate mini-palio from 29 June 2024
The Besnate Minipalio is an annual event that celebrates local history and traditions with a series of activities that involve the entire community. After the preview on June 15th, the Minipalio will officially kick off on June 29th, with a week full of events, games and competitions between the local villages. The annual event culminates in a grand final event on 6 July
