The turning point came at the last minute, when the white smoke seemed like it could irremediably fade away. President Pietro Sciotto met in the afternoon Giacomo Modica dissolving any reservations. The agreement is signed, with the coach from Mazara del Vallo signing the renewal of the two-year contract and will therefore continue his adventure on the bench of Messina after the excellent Serie C championship which ended with a quiet survival, almost reaching the playoffs. Never in the Sciotto era, of the thousand revolutions, had it happened to take the path of continuity.
Modica remains, agreement with Sciotto
The coach himself officially communicated the news, long awaited by the Giallorossi supporters, summoning journalists for an unusual press conference which took place in the evening at a meeting place in Cristo Re: “The championship had finished a month and a half ago and therefore some answers had to be given to the city, to the fans and above all to myself. I understand that the wait had become tiring, but I am a coach by profession and I wasn’t the one who had to call the club. We were long on certain situations because the priority was registration for the championship, then there was also a health problem with president Sciotto who is in pre-hospitalisation. For this reason I wish him good luck with the surgery he will have to face.”
The wedding continues
Yet it was not quick to reach an agreement: “The president gave important signals with the registration, then we sat down to talk and understand whether this sporting marriage could go ahead or not. With the utmost loyalty that distinguishes us, we waited a little too long, but the end justifies the means and we succeeded, this marriage will continue. We reached an agreement at the president’s and my will.”
Messina second home
Messina is a city to which he is very attached. Modica underlined: “I’ve been here for two years as a player and now for the third time as a coach. I hope I don’t get tired and can enjoy many beautiful things together. I will try to give the satisfaction that the club deserves if we behave well on the pitch. I’m very flattered to still be Messina’s coach and I hope to be a point of reference for the sporting side. We will do our best to ensure that everything is focused in the best possible way and we await more detailed news from the owners regarding the management of human resources and the important objectives to be achieved.”
