The Moai of Urbansolid arrive in Busto Arsizio. After having exhibited these four works in Milan at Citylife, the two bustocchi artists, Riccardo Cavalleri and Gabriele Castellani, positioned them in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, where they will remain until July 1st, when they will be transferred to four different points of the city, before being brought to Switzerland.

The initiative is part of the collateral events of the patronal festival which include, among other things, the “St. John’s dinner” which will be held in this square (read here). The deputy mayor and councilor for culture Manuela Maffioli was also there to observe the installation taking shape.

«It is a great pride to be able to exhibit these works in Busto, which is our hometown, after the success they had at Citylife», explains Gabriele Castellani. «This square – adds Riccardo Cavalleri – was frequented a lot by kids during our youth. It got lost a little, but it is being redeveloped and we are very proud and proud to be part of this relaunch.”
On the meaning of the installation, four 3.05 meter high and “smeared” reproductions of the statues of Easter Island, Cavalleri explains that «the Moai are the synthesis of a civilization that they told us became extinct due to problems caused by themselves in their ecosystem. By “vandalizing” such a sculpture, the warning is to understand that modern man has not learned the lesson and the fear is that of meeting the same fate as the Rapa Nui population on a global scale.”

There is also a “green message” about having “respect for our past to have a better future”. There is therefore the theme of art that questions the future of the planet and sustainability, in continuity with the work of Michelangelo Pistoletto exhibited in the city.

In these hours the two artists are positioning the works, arriving from Milan, on the “stages” of the square. The initiative, organized by the cultural association “TraccePerLaMeta, follows the “Get Out” project created by the same artists last June 24th a stone’s throw from the same square (read here). On that occasion, in view of the opening of the construction site for the redevelopment of the old prisons, they unrolled colored fabrics from the cell windows, to symbolize the imminent rebirth of the building. The work remained on display throughout the summer until work began.
