In a city council deserted by the opposition it was approved, after a long marathon, the new Government Plan of the Territory of Legnano. A document strongly criticized by the minorities, which the majority forcefully defended, underlining its goodness especially with regards to regeneration and sustainability.
Regeneration and sustainability
«This is a PGT that draws those lines that will really allow us to give substance to the headlights, the guiding lights of our path around which we are basing all the administration’s action – declared the mayor Lorenzo Radice -: regeneration and sustainability. We fought like lions to ensure that the document was approved not at the end of the mandate but around the middle, so as to still have a good period of time ahead of us to be able to ensure that a whole series of energies that had remained blocked for they may have too much time ahead of the political conditions to be implemented. I am very proud that with this plan finally some principles that create continuity in greenery, that create the municipal ecological network, That reduce land consumption with an important political choice that sends a message to all sailors”.
“Stop the large shopping centers”
Radice then made a point of denying what he did not hesitate to call spaceballs: «We are not those of the shopping centres: we are reducing the trade of average structures by 160,000 square meters of sales and we are saying stop at large surfaces of sales. With this plan we are establishing a fund to fuel neighborhood trade that can be done anywhere in the city with regeneration logic.” AND on Franco Tosi, Radice reiterated: «We are asking for few but very clear things with respect to the public utilities we want, because if Legnano is to be a hub city, critical issues such as that of the station must be resolved and courageous choices must be made. The same goes for the old hospital and the barracks.”
At the center is the public city
«For too many decades – concluded the mayor – Legnano has seen one building development that has cannibalized the public city. We we have put the theme of the public city back at the center of this Pgt, and this is it a very courageous choice. This plan is also very respectful of history although he looks very much to the future. The Manufacturing is an example of this.” Finally, the hope is that “from here on we can start working with the opposition with another approach based on comparison, for the city”.
