Bologna, 13 June 2024 – “If the wars they started from liespeace can start from the truth.”
This is the phrase of Julian Assange which is reported on a banner in Neptune Square next to the traveling sculpture ‘Anything to say’ created by the artist Davide Dorminowhich will remain on site today and tomorrow.
Assange himself and his sides are depicted Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning it’s a empty chair: “An invitation to citizens to rise above to demand the freedom of Julian Assange, to defend freedom of expression. ‘Anything to say’ is for everyone, it is a means of building a critical sense on which to express our voice” opens the creator of the work.
The installation in bronzewhich has been around for ten years now which this year was a Milan, Naples And Rome and which closes right at Bologna his tour therefore has the aim of raising awareness of the message of freedom of expression left by the founding journalist of Wiki Leaksas well as celebrating the awarding of the honorary citizenship which the Bologna City Council granted him on 19 February.
Assange in prison
“He is currently unjustly imprisoned in the maximum security prison of Belmarshconsidered as the English Guantánamo, even if he committed no crime, except that of having published the truth. He made sure that every citizen became aware of the war crimes committed by by governments, by the so-called ‘strong powers’.
Around 20 July he was granted an appeal before the British court of justice, in which his possible extradition to the United States, requested by the American government. We hope that he will be freed, and we are mobilizing citizens to ask for the same” he explains Fulvia Panza of the committee of Free Assange Bologna.
During these two days, numerous artists, activists and students will unite for him: the poet opened the day Marcella Colaciwith the reading of two of his poems which will be sent to Assange in prison (in the stall next to the sculpture there are also postcards on which it is possible to write a thought to send to him).
