The candidate with zero votes. This is a fact that does not escape the eye when reading the lists scrutinized in the recent electoral round for the municipality of Reggio Emilia, a bipartisan phenomenon that occurs on both the right and the left.
Someone might then ask, but who will ever be that aspiring politician or that supporter of a list who, in the secrecy of the ballot box, doesn’t even vote for himself? Probably in some houses these are people who do not live in the municipality in which they are voting and who, at least according to the results achieved, did not have a great appeal with the electorate. But will there also be someone in the polling station, placed in front of the ballot paper with his name in front, who has lost confidence in his own abilities? Or maybe we will also have to fish among those many who hear: “They asked me to join the list there, but I don’t care about politics at all.”
It is a curious fact, a new phenomenon which contrasts with what is defined as “the disease of politics”, which generally strikes the candidate at the end of the electoral campaign and which multiplies his efforts, commits himself and sweats to obtain every single vote more and do well.
But to understand better, let’s move on to the cold numbers. And there is little to count. In the Reagire list (at the top of the original ranking) the candidates with zero votes are 10 out of 32. While in the Pane Pace e Lavoro list, the zero is counted 8 times. Four zero votes also in the Reggio Emilia Movement and two in the Five Star Movement. There is also a zero among the 32 of Alleanza Civica and 4 are those who appear in the League team. Two zero votes also for Azione Reggio, overtaken at this juncture by Forza Italia which fielded 4. For a level playing field, there are three zeros for Verdi and Possibile, while two are for the Left in the Municipality.
Quick calculation, there are 40 candidates left empty-handed. An entire list, plus reserves.
