Spino Fiorito, Coldiretti Massa-Carrara: from battle transparency to small DOC in the glass

MASSA – From the new race for the transparency of food products in Europe to the small, sometimes very small, DOC wines in the glass, an expression of the extraordinary variety of the territory, of its winemaking souls and of its native and most precious vines. Coldiretti Massa-Carrara brings to Piazza Aranci, for the great return of the Spino Fiorito food and wine festival organized by the Municipality of Massa with the participation of the North West Tuscany Chamber of Commerce scheduled from Saturday 15 to Monday 17 June 2024 (from 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm) , the “weight” of local viticulture together with the challenges that the main organization is leading in Italy and above all in Europe with mobilizations and proposals to protect the income of agricultural businesses and the health of consumers.

Not only glasses, tastings and food and wine excellences to be appreciated and discovered against the backdrop of Palazzo “Rosso” Ducale, symbol of the power of the Cybo-Malaspina, in Spino Fiorito all visitors will be able to become protagonists of the mother of all battles: transparency at the table. “We are proud and happy to have contributed to the return of Spino Fiorito by involving 24 local wine companies, encouraging and supporting their participation which is fundamental to its success. – explains Francesca Ferrari, President of Coldiretti Massa-Carrara – Spino Fiorito is a beautiful event that we are sure will also find the appreciation of enthusiasts in the context of Piazza Aranci. It is an event that manages to create a special atmosphere every time where wine is not drunk but learned about. The theme of transparency and traceability also recurs in this context where the link between companies, territory and the products I express, is in front of us. He’s the winemaker. While it is obvious in this context, unfortunately it is not always the case on market shelves and on our tables. This is why we want to re-involve consumer citizens. After the law against synthetic food that we obtained thanks to their support, the new objective is the extension of origin labeling to all foods on sale in Europe and the abolition of the customs code which allows with a minimum passage in our country to a products to deserve citizenship. We do not believe it is fair or correct towards citizens. We will ask Spino Fiorito to support our petition.”

The petition can be signed in the institutional gazebo of Coldiretti, set up in Piazza Aranci, where the national campaign “Mum, it’s time to fight! Hands off Italian quality” to raise public awareness of the need to consume healthy food and above all of certain origin. Among the initiatives promoted by Coldiretti, the “talk” conducted by Fabrizio Diolaiuti in the meeting area with the provincial president, Francesca Ferrari, the president of the Candia Doc Protection Consortium, Fabrizio Bondielli and the provincial director, Francesco Cianciulli.

From battles at the table to the glass of Spino Fiorito with companies from the province of Massa-Carrara but also from nearby Versilia. Viticulture is an important sector of provincial agriculture with just over 500 companies and just under 500 hectares of surface cultivated with vines, a large part of which is an expression of the Candia dei Colli Apuani DOC and of that heroic viticulture that takes us back to to Roman times. The production of grapes, and therefore wine, belongs to the history of the city and is a distinctive and characterizing element of the local catering offer (and not only) and food and wine tourism. In Spino Fiorito we will see “in action” an important slice of this oenological heritage made up of custodian winemakers who have rediscovered and relaunched some of the native varieties at risk of extinction and above all of people. Among the Coldiretti members, the companies Calevro, Cima, Bel Fior, Il Moretto, Incandia Bio, L’Aurora di Francesco, Le Canne, Beatrice & Maloro, Vitivinicola Sodini, La Bura, La Meta, L’Altra will be present in Spino Fiorito. Donna, Tenuta Ca’ Bianca, Cantine Cardomonte, Il Sogno, Nel Cuore del Frutto, Borghini, Il Fornello, Tenuta Mariani, Montalbano, Vigne Conti, Cantine Ramarro, Il Quadro d’Oro.
