Marine Serre’s manifesto fashion show

First fashion show outside Paris and, above all, first full-fledged men’s collection. With so many innovations introduced in his professional journey Marine Serre fully honored his role as guest designer of Pitti Uomo. «I loved designing these men’s garments, but at the same time I couldn’t help but also design a women’s line», commented the 31-year-old French designer, on the eve of the show which took place at Villa di Maiano, at doors of Florence.

A location used in the past by great directors of international cinema, from James Ivory to Franco Zeffirelli, turned out to be perfect for the SS25 collection defined by Serre as “sporty glamour”, made up of 49 looks, half of which are feminine. «After my last ready-to-wear show in March, I wanted to do something very elegant and show what I could do with couture pieces. Certainly the Villa and its gardens were a great inspiration”, declared the designer, announcing that in September she will not show as usual at the women’s fashion week in Paris.

And if the inspiration for women is couture, including garments made of jersey and others using recycling such as the corset dress made with tennis bags, for the men’s collection – a real novelty of the season – the starting point is tailoring.

In the Italian gardens of the villa, among citrus trees and lavender bushes and with a postcard view of the center of Florence, the Marine Serre man conquers the scene wearing double-breasted suits or austere suits with a single-button jacket, all produced in Italy. But the key element of the collection, the one that gives character to the looks, are the red silk shirts with wide Seventies collars, equipped with maxi cuffs with golden buttons.

Also strong are the leather garments printed with the crescent moon, symbol of the brand, used for both men and women, as are the silhouettes characterized by the clean cuts of the fabrics and sartorial perfection, the result of rigorously made in Italy production of this collection (the brand traditionally produces between Italy, France and Portugal).

Even if the Florence fashion show is announced as a debut, it is not the first time that Marine Serre has ventured into menswear: for some time the items of the men’s wardrobe have been integrated into the women’s fashion shows, so much so that the man is already worth almost 25% of the sales. But with participation in Pitti, further impetus to the project is expected. «I feel a strong potential – said Serre -, also in light of the feedback received from those who are already customers».

«The title of the fashion show is “Sempre Legati” which means being together, staying united even through fashion, to send a higher message», concluded the designer, recounting her trip to Italy, for which she chose a soundtrack by local but alternative music.

A message of unity and peace reiterated at the end of the show, through the last eight looks, characterized by pure white and created by poetically assembling together sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths and doilies.
