A cyber attack targeted the store chain the Marketspecialized in the sale of used objects and clothes present throughout Italy and in the province of Varese in Gazzada Schianno and Gallarate.
Customers were notified via email about the threat and the possibility compromise of their personal data. According to what is reported in the communication, the hacker attack dates back to two months ago, precisely on Sunday 14 April 2024. The compromised systems belong to Mercatino Franchising.
The email reads:
“Dear Customer,
We would like to inform you that we have become aware of a cyber attack that occurred on Sunday 14 April 2024 on the systems of Mercatino Franchising, our Data Processor. There is therefore the possibility that among the information violated during this attack there are also your data, present in the Mercatino srl archives for the provision of the services necessary for our business. The data potentially affected are personal data (name, surname, tax code, identity document ref.) and contact data (address, postal code, city, province, e-mail, telephone number), as well as the details of any operations carried out. Sensitive data is excluded.
We inform you that all the safeguard and communication procedures to the competent bodies (Guarantor for the Protection of Personal Data) were immediately activated, the services we provide have remained operational.
Data protection and security have always been of great importance for Mercatino; for this reason, in analyzing what happened in depth, Mercatino Franchising informed us that it had already undertaken a program of analysis and development of further security measures”.
