We overcome obstacles, of every shape and nature. And Valentina’s life has encountered many obstacles. Not all of them were overcome, but many were contained, with desire, stubbornness and driven by their love for Roma. 51 years old at the registry office, over 40 following the Giallorossi colours, from ’83 to today.
A subscriber for several years, her story went viral on social media a few days ago when, from her “Cosaseiperme” account, she reported a disservice that denied the payment of the renewal fee in installments: «The procedure has never changed for we. You contact the call center, leave your details, including your companion’s details, and pay by credit card. This year, however, you had to fill out a form where the only payment method indicated was a credit card, not even a bank transfer.” An excessive cost for Valentina to be paid in a single solution, which is why she raised the issue of the lack of possibility of paying the amount in installments, which arrived a few hours later in Trigoria: «After my report I was contacted, they explained to me that they are resolving it, with the hope that by June 18th (when the renewal phase will close) there will be a way to proceed. In the meantime they blocked my place, to avoid mockery as well as damage.”
A yellow-red love story
Valentina’s life deserves to be told. Because her tormented coexistence with a genetic bone disease (“Osteogenesis imperfecta”) has never slowed down her love story with Roma. She was born on May 8, 1983, when she came across a yellow-red river of love. «I want to be one of them, dad», Valentina’s request. She responded promptly: “Have surgery, I can’t carry you to the stadium in my arms.”
The disease, which caused her over 40 bone fractures throughout her life, needed to be addressed once and for all. In France, a few years later, her intervention arrived which allowed her to realize her dream. She entered the Olimpico for the first time, on her crutches, on 21 February 1988: «We were still playing friendlies in February, think about the times. We beat Young Boys 3-0.” Seven days after the first official match against Juventus, another victory. A relationship always lived with intensity, between ups and downs, the choice not to renew with Zeman, the Scudetto lived from home until returning to the stadium at the moment of his Roma’s greatest need, when we risked relegation with Bruno Conti at the helm. Then the Mourinho era, the season ticket becoming reality again, the Romanism that blazes in her heart.
A club at his side
In recent years, Roma has dedicated many initiatives to the world of disabilities: «Like “Let’s overcome obstacles”, which is truly splendid. They come to pick you up at home with Toyota vehicles and take you back home. The problem remains the incivility of people, of those who do not help the flow and kick the vehicles after the matches or of those who occupy the companion’s place during the matches, sometimes remaining standing and obstructing the view. Life in the sector isn’t always easy.”
