Milan, it’s Paulo Fonseca’s day: eyes on Rabiot

So today the Fonseca management starts. Officially, nine years after the last time a foreign coach sat on the Milan bench. The Portuguese has so far observed from a distance a market that is already boiling. And this morning it will be the turn of Ibrahimovic – ideal point of contact between the past and future of the team and club – ideally cutting the ribbon on the Milan to come. This is because the choice of the new coach is a story that has its roots in mid-April, passed through the discontent of the fans once the club had decided to focus on Lopetegui. Now with Fonseca, who already knows the Italian championship, in mid-June Milan finds itself with a list of objectives drawn up but not yet definitive. Everything is being updated, even if the candidate to be the highlight of the Rossoneri market remains Zirkzee.

Milan, Zirkzee in the front row

This morning at Milanello there is also talk of this, because Ibrahimovic is ready to take stock of the incoming shots. Updates for Zirkzee, a Bologna star who has scored eleven goals in the last year, are daily: it is inevitable that the negotiation will be laborious, commissions are involved and Milan aims to lower the figure of fifteen million now requested to ten. However, Zirkzee will have to inform Bologna that he wants to take advantage of the clause, linked to his agent. Casa Milan would like to reach the end of the month with a happy ending for the Dutch striker, but yesterday he was called up at the last minute for the European Championship in place of the injured Koopmeiners and this could lengthen the negotiation time. At the same time, we must take into account Arsenal and Manchester United who could make a comeback. Milan still appears ahead of the competition but any unexpected event is around the corner. The Rossoneri’s desire is to entrust the post-Giroud role to the Dutchman from Bologna. For the attack, however, Milan has also explored the possibilities it has with Chelsea Broja: the Albanian will challenge Italy on Saturday in the debut of Euro 2024. But the greatest concentration, inevitably, is on Zirkzee.

Rabiot track

In the meantime, Rabiot is always at the center of the Rossoneri’s interest. A possible arrival on a free transfer for the French midfielder keeps Milan on their toes. The midfield, moreover, is a department that mostly focuses on opportunities, rather than the existing needs for defense and especially attack. So in the middle of the field, if a big name arrives, it could be Bennacer who starts. The Algerian, unlike others – like Rabiot himself, for example – will not have national team commitments: it will be easier to define his future, perhaps in the next few weeks.
