With the numbers from the local elections still ‘hot’, it is the ideal time to reflect. And to check if there are any pebbles (or stones) left in someone’s shoes that need to be removed. All legitimate, obviously, even more so when there are numbers as a basis of support. Natascia Guiduzzi chose to start right from here, from the 4.31% of votes obtained by the 5 Star Movement in Cesena, who after having been an active part of the birth of the Movement, witnessed the elections from the window, against the choice to support the list by Enzo Lattuca. And in fact her comment on the social network pages revolved around the quote made during the election campaign by the centre-right candidate Marco Casali: “From the campo largo to the campo santo, it’s a moment.”

Guiduzzi has never hidden his opposition to this alliance project.

“I assert my ideas forcefully, not to raise flags, but to stay true to the facts. I go back to the beginning, to 2008 and 2009, the period in which the 5 Star Movement was being born. In Cesena there was nothing yet, but I had tons of enthusiasm. I remember the meetings in Milan with Beppe Grillo and the founders.”

It’s been a long time.

“And many things have changed. I don’t judge anyone, everyone makes the choices they deem most right. But it is a fact that the spirit with which the Movement was born has now been lost.” Can he come back?

“Difficult. Very difficult. On Sunday evening, after the result of the European elections, I would have expected Conte’s resignation. Which did not arrive. Indeed, on his agenda, among the issues he talks about, for example, is overcoming the of the two mandates. The bond was one of the strong points around which this alignment was built”.

All forgotten?

“No, fortunately. I believe that the 5 Star Movement has played a very important role in the evolution of the way of doing politics in Italy, spreading approaches and themes that are now part of various other political forces, throughout the hemisphere, from Brothers of Italy in the Democratic Party. There was a need for a force that raised questions about transparency, legitimacy, involvement from below… And I hold on to my usual ideals.”

So has Natascia Guiduzzi remained the same?

“In some respects yes, without a doubt. The 5 Star Movement was born not to form alliances, not to look for agreements and seats. When it started doing so, it started losing consensus. This is not what voters expect Will a councilor come to Cesena? Was it worth it, finding us now at 4.31%? The Democratic Party, although an ally, ate the Movement as it should.”

The ‘wide field’ is a national theme.

“Which, from the point of view of the Movement, is not paying off. We have lost the votes that we had stolen from other political forces and from people disillusioned with politics.”

In Cesena 62.3% of those entitled to vote voted.

“The first party was abstentionism. We need to take note of this and analyze the issue to put a stop to a very large problem: over 30,000 eligible voters did not feel represented by politics”.
