Mater Olbia, expropriation of the land was attempted

The attempted extortion on the grounds of Mater Olbia.

It ended with a mixed verdict the trial regarding the controversial issue of the land on which the Mater Olbiathe private hospital born from the partnership between Qatar Foundation and the Gemelli Polyclinicerected on the ashes of the former San Raffaele.

The judging panel, chaired by the judge Caterina Interlandiissued a conviction and an acquittal. Alessandro Marinia real estate developer from Codrongianus, was sentenced to two years in prison for attempted extortion, while his business partner Luigi Bardanzellu of Olbia was acquitted of the charges.

The investigation was launched in May 2015, during the prosecutor’s mandate Domenico Fiordalisi at the public prosecutor’s office of Tempio Pausania, and entrusted to the tax police unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Sassari. The complaint was presented by the then mayor of Olbia, Gianni Giovannellifor alleged blackmail against him and the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, in relation to a case of adverse possession of an area near the hospital, which occurred in period preceding the signature of the agreement for its construction, nine years ago.

According to the prosecution, Alessandro Marini he would have tried to influence the negotiations shortly before the signing of the agreement for the construction of the Mater Olbia, threatening to initiate a lawsuit for adverse possession of some land claimed as his own. It is argued that Marini’s goal was to bring into the project, the value of one billion and 200 million eurosa consortium of companies of which he and Bardanzellu were representatives.
