Florence, solidarity walk for former GKN workers on hunger strike

A walk from San Miniato al Monte to Piazza Indipendenza in solidarity with the former GKN workers who have been on hunger strike for more than a week. The initiative that will take place is called “Work and the future, let’s walk together so as not to stand still”. Friday 14 June from 5.30pm organized by the Isolotto Community and the Piagge Community with the participation of father Bernardo Gianni and other expressions of the Florentine church and citizenship.

The walk will end in Piazza Indipendenza, in the place where the workers of the former Campi Bisenzio factory have been on hunger strike for days.

The invitation to the initiative states: “Let’s walk together because what happens to the workers of the former Gkn it concerns the whole city and the territory, concerns the way in which work is understood, the relationship with nature and the future. Let’s walk together from San Miniato to Piazza Indipendenza so that what happens to the workers of the former Gkn does not remain in silence, indifference, inaction”.

Concern is then expressed “for the passing of the days which puts even more to the test those workers who are on hunger strike in support of a collective dispute that has been going on for over 34 months”.

A walk, it was reiterated, “to support the request that salaries be paid (I have been without salaries for five months) and to ask the institutions and all the local subjects involved to give substance to the request for regional law, to the reindustrialization project , to popular ownership”.
