“The water crisis in Agrigento can only be resolved with the Porto Empedocle watermaker”

The Social Cartel of Agrigento

The Social Cartel of Agrigento, i.e. the Diocese, CGIL, CISL and UIL, believes that, net of palliative measures, the water crisis in Agrigento must and can only be resolved by reactivating the watermaker in Porto Empedocle. Don Mario Sorce, Gero Acquisto, Alfonso Buscemi and Paolo Ottaviano, explain: “The summit convened by the prefect of Agrigento, in the presence of mayors and representatives of the police force, to take stock of the serious water crisis that is affecting the provincial territory , confirms the gravity of the situation in which our time finds itself. The drilling of new wells and the strengthening of the water supply service via tankers can help fill the needs which have worsened, also following the 30% reduction in the supply coming from the plants owned by Siciliacque. However, the mayor must immediately request the intervention of the Civil Protection to restore the Porto Empedocle watermaker, trying to start working towards water independence, which, as the Aica leaders have recognised, is unfortunately an objective which cannot be achieved immediately. Furthermore, the strengthening of the tanker service, which allows the use of sources present underground but not connected to the distribution network and which was inspired by the emergency of recent weeks, can perhaps contribute today to alleviating the inconveniences of the population but it is necessary think about the next few weeks when, given the increase in tourist arrivals, water needs will increase”.
