Disabled elderly man beats up, caregiver arrested in Agrigento

He would have mistreated – both physically and psychologically – the elderly man from Agrigento who he had to take care of as caretaker. A pensioner who – according to the investigation – was subjected to habitual suffering and humiliation. He is in execution of a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by court of Agrigentothat a woman from Agrigento was arrested by the flying squad policemen. She is under investigation for the alleged crime of aggravated mistreatment.



The investigation began in recent days when they showed up at the Agrigento flying squad the children of the elderly man who said they had hired the carer to take care of their parent who was now ill due to senile dementia. For some time, the family had noticed noticeable bruises on the body: the circumstance had also been noted by another caregiver of the elderly man who had raised suspicions towards her colleague. The policemen of the flying squad, authorized by the prosecutor’s office of Agrigento, started audio/video interceptions in the elderly man’s home, managing to find that the caregiver was forcefully pulling, scratching and punching and slapping the head, face and other parts of the body. The elderly man came – according to what emerged from the video interceptions – iinsulted and intimidated, often to force him to sleep. The suspect was taken to Pasquale Di Lorenzo prison of Agrigento.
