Among the lists supporting the engineer Grazia Cosentino, the surprise certainly comes from the result of the Cuffarians of the DC, who surpassed the barrier of two thousand votes, setting the threshold at 6.41 percent. The exponents of the party led by Commissioner Giuseppe Licata, supported Cosentino’s choice from the beginning and some opponents, not surprisingly, spoke of a candidate for mayor “chosen by Cuffaro”. The city commissioner gets straight to the point. “The result is exceptional – explains Licata – ours was the only list not to have any outgoing councilors or councillors. We have built a group made up of respectable people, without political or institutional experience, but who have had a hold on the city. We are really satisfied with the work done.” The DC is in the broad moderate-centre-right pact and with the numbers of the first round of these administrative elections it takes a step forward in the internal hierarchies. Clearly, the result of the runoff will matter a lot. In the event of victory of the former municipal manager, the Cuffarians can aspire to field more councillors. Licata, on the other hand, does not comment on any strategies to be implemented for the run-off polls. “These are choices that are up to the candidate for mayor – he says again – it is she who will decide who to meet and whether there will be the conditions to make agreements”. There have already been meetings, including yesterday, between coordinators of the coalition parties. The path of actual apparition does not seem to be the most popular one, at least at the moment. The absence of the definitive numbers of all the lists does not facilitate a certain type of reasoning. Healing the clear fracture that separated the fate of the official center-right parties from those of the “Alliance for Gela” defectors does not seem to be a small undertaking at all.
