After the controversy of recent days over the conditions of the ship destined to host over 2 thousand law enforcement officers engaged in Brindisi for the G7, the evidentiary seizure has arrived for the cruise ship Goddess of the Night (formerly Costa Magica), owned of the Mykonos Magic company.

This was announced by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Brindisi, which issued an evidentiary seizure decree for the ship, rented, according to the Infodifesa website, for around 6 million euros and which turned out to be in unacceptable conditions for many trade unions of the categories involved.

“The Central Operational Service and the Brindisi Flying Squad started investigations following the serious critical issues reported by the Police Force personnel, assigned to the security and public order services, who had already boarded the aforementioned motor vessel to take accommodation. The timely investigative activity, conducted with the collaboration of the various specialist units of the Brindisi Police Headquarters, has documented significant hygienic/health critical issues and serious housing shortages, such as to integrate the crime of fraud in public supplies” reads the note from the Prosecutor’s Office, without specifying if dependent on unknown or defined subjects.

“The investigative elements collected so far by the State Police and the need for further investigative investigations, including those of a technical nature, have made it necessary to adopt the decree for the seizure of the motor vessel. For the execution of the ordered seizure, the State Police personnel were assisted, for the aspects of specific competence, by the Port Authority and by the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of the Carabinieri. The police force personnel who had found accommodation on the ‘Mykonos Magic’ have already been transferred to another ship and to other accommodation facilities”.

The ship is the GNV Azzurra ferry, for which however, as reported by the Apulian secretariat of Siap, the Italian police union, “we have received numerous reports regarding the quality of the accommodation provided for State Police personnel. In particular, many colleagues complain of having been transferred from an already critical situation to an even more inadequate solution.”

The Department of Public Security announced today that “the transfer of all police force personnel from the Mykonos Magic ship to various accommodation facilities in the area was successfully concluded. The last group found accommodation on the GNV Azzurra motor vessel chartered by the Department of Public Security and already inspected by representatives of the organizations
most representative unions of the State Police, who had expressed a positive opinion on the suitability of housing for the staff”.
