Sparks during the commemoration of Silvio Berlusconi in the Chamber. “We believe that Silvio Berlusconi’s legacy was politically and morally disastrous,” Riccardo Ricciardi of the 5 Star Movement said during his speech. The Forza Italia deputies, in addition to vigorously protesting the words of the Five Star Movement, left the chamber.
What Ricciardi (M5S) said
“There has never been a president convicted of tax fraud, who legitimized tax evaders, who always blamed the judges, who polluted relations between politics and the judiciary”, said Ricciardi, interrupted several times by protests from the majority benches.
“We do not accept the beatification of a person”, continued the M5s deputy, adding: “Let us not forget that this Parliament voted, on Berlusconi’s orders, for the fact that Ruby was Mubarak’s niece. We owe this chamber respect”. Amid the protests of Forza Italia deputies, who left the chamber, Alessandro Cattaneo commented: “It was not a commemoration but a profiteering of a political nature.”
Tajani’s reaction
”If M5S was fine with Berlusconi in the Draghi government, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be fine now. I don’t understand why moral judgment should be changed. If it was so negative, why agree to be together…”, was Antonio Tajani’s harsh response to M5S’s criticisms.
Brothers of Italy: “Vomiting attack”
“It is disgusting to use the commemoration of a dead man to attack his figure, whoever he is, including Silvio Berlusconi. We will never be like these five-star jackals. This is why we left the Chamber”, said the deputy group leader of the Brothers of Italy to Camera, Augusta Montaruli, on social media.
“I understand that it is a difficult moment for them, that they would like to recover that old electoral base which, once the bluff was discovered, abandoned them, but the attack on Berlusconi by the vice-president of the 5 Star Movement, Riccardo Ricciardi, is one of the lowest points experienced by the Italian Parliament. In order to make news they have reached the point of lapping up the vilification of a corpse, with the usual ignorance and intellectual dishonesty that characterizes their actions. Those who are not capable of showing respect towards the person and confuse the plan political with the personal one should not engage in politics”, said the deputy of Fratelli d’Italia, Antonio Baldelli.
