Today, 12 June, the Councilor for the Environment Stefania Fornaro and the President of Kyma Ambiente, Giampiero Mancarelli, have called a meeting with the trade associations most representative of the commercial and hotel activities present in our Old City, in order to follow up on the proposals emerged during a meeting held in May in which it was asked to share and find solutions for a better tourist welcome on the island. During the discussion, the Councilor for the Environment submitted to those present a memorandum of understanding for the valorisation of separate waste collection in the areas of accommodation facilities (hotels and restaurants) as well as in commercial activities operating in the Old City of Taranto. The agreement, which will last two years, renewable for another two years, includes a pilot project that sees Kyma Ambiente is committed to organizing the best operational solution for separate waste collection together with the facility manager after a joint survey of needs.
The President of Kyma Ambiente, Giampiero Mancarelli, communicated to this end the company’s willingness to dedicate the engineered bins only to the commercial activities present in the Old City delivering the card to open them to those who sign the protocol. Furthermore, a Kyma truck will be made available to the restaurants, 6 days a week which, at a time shared between the parties, will stop at two points in the old city, allowing for additional waste disposal compared to that which will continue to be collected at night. The trade associations that attended also requested a small tolerance in glass collection times to prevent tourists, guests of the accommodation facilities, from being disturbed in the morning hours. Also in this sense the availability of the municipal company was gathered.
The memorandum of understanding will be signed during a press conference scheduled for the day June 19th at 10.00 at the “Hall of Mirrors” of Palazzo di città.
