On 5 June 2024, the pupils of the Rigutini and Don Ponzetto schools took part in an inspection among the rice fields to observe the growth of the plants donated by the Lions almost ten years ago.

In Sant’Agabio the “Children’s Forest”
On the occasion of the “Tree Festival 2015” the “Children’s Forest” was born, a green area located along Strada Prelle, in Sant’Agabio, where the Municipality and the Novara Ticino Lions Club had encouraged the planting of approximately 900 dedicated trees to the newborns of the previous year.
Children who today attend the fourth grade like those of the “Rigutini” and “Don Ponzetto” schools, who on June 5th took part in an inspection among the rice fields to observe the growth of the plants donated by the Lions almost ten years ago.
The objectives and intentions
«In addition to showing them the evolution of these plant species – explained the current president of the Novara Ticino Lions Club, Maurizio Leone -, our objective is to make people understand the importance of care and maintenance activities useful for the continuity of the environment”.
A journey through time in which the classes and teachers present were accompanied by municipal technicians to discover real islands designed to preserve biodiversity and reduce the levels of pollutants in ecosystems.
«The criterion with which we created this forest is the same as that replicated in other surrounding areas that need to be renaturalized – underlined the forestry doctor and manager of the public green areas of the Municipality of Novara, Piermario Travaglia -. An initiative inspired by the “Tiny Forest” model (mini-forests) for urban forestation which we would like to apply within the city parks, in areas not directly accessible, for the sole purpose of amplifying the beneficial effects given by the action of trees, letting nature follow its course and create new ecological habitats.”
